The mine usually starts about a cm below the tip of the leaf, and descends as a slender, whitish, full depth gallery for a length of 3-4 cm. Not infrequently stripes of uneaten parenchyma can be found. Frass in a sometimes interrupted and dispersed central line for most of the length of the mine. The larva can change leaves. Pupation external.

The species probably hibernates as a young larva; mature larvae have been found from late May untill the second half of June.
