Plant Parasites of Europe

leafminers, galls and fungi

Elachista metella

Elachista metella Kaila, 2002

Not described.

host plants

Poaceae, oligophagous

Bothriochloa ischaemum; Bromopsis erecta; Milium effusum.

These hostplants are listed by Parenti & Varalda (1994a) for “Elachista cingillella”.

Two annual generations

Uncertain. Both from the Netherlands and Belgium E. cingillella has been reported; without a revision of that material the possibility remains that in fact these records refer E. metella, that as late as in 2002 has been split off by Kaila & Junnulainen

distribution within Europe

From France to Bulgaria, and from Czechia and Slovakia to Italy (Fauna Europaea, 2011).

All references to E. cingillella from southern Europe in fact concern metella; the illustrations of the adult moths and the male genitalia of cingillella Traugott-Olsen & Nielsen (1977a) refer to metella.
