consicuous fusiform swelling of an internode; in the spacious gall chamber a greyish green caterpaillar with a brownish black head and pronotum.

References by Houard to Silene inaperta, loncilia, porensis, vulgaris are not entirely reliable because much has been changed in later years in the taxonomy of the genus Caryocolum.
