mine
Ovipossition at the leaf upperside, egg shell iridescent. Small, hooklike corridor, mostly in a vein axil. Frass in a very thick central line. The larve soon leaves the mine through an untidy hole and subsequenty feeds living freely on the leaf. Pupation in a spindle-shaped, yellowish white, strongly ribbed cocoon.
host plants
Rosaceae, oligophagous
Amelanchier; Chaenomeles; Cotoneaster; Crataegus douglasii, laevigata, monogyna; Cydonia oblonga; Malus domestica; Mespilus germanica; Prunus domestica subsp. insititia, spinosa; Pyracantha coccinea; Pyrus bourgaeana, communis; Sorbus aria, aucuparia, torminalis.
Despite this long list of host plants, at least in NW Europe the species is found almost exclusively on Hawthorn.
Schütze (1931a) and Szőcs (1977a) also report the species from Hippophae. Since this plant belongs to the family Elaeagnaceae, which is closely related to the Rosaceae, this certainly is trustworthy.
