Acer platanoides, Ede

Phyllonorycter joannisi mine

Acer platanoides, Nieuwendam

A not too small, lower surface, greyish white tentiform mine, almost always in the centre of the leaf. Lower epidermis with many, very weak, folds. The roof of the mine remains green till a late stage, when it is eaten out completely. Often several mines in a leaf. Pupation in the mine.

host plants

Sapindaceae, narrowly monophagous

Acer platanoides.

Hetty Soetekouw found a mine of this species on Acer cappadocicum. The mine contained a pupa that was about to emerge; apparently the complete development could be accomplished on this host.

Larvae are seen from May till September.

BE recorded (Phegea, 2009).

NE recorded (Kuchlein & de Vos, 1999a;, 2009).

LUX recorded (Ellis: Kautenbach).

distribution within Europe

From Fennoscandia to the Pyrenees, Italy, and Bulgaria, and from Britain to Central Russia and the Ukraine (Fauna Europaea, 2009).
