Phyllonorycter salictella (Zeller, 1846)
Salix x fragilis, Belgium, prov. Namur, Bouge; © Jean-Yves Baugnée
same mine, underside
mine
Rather large, lower-surface tentiform mine, generally against the leaf margin, often low in the leaf. Lower epidermis strongly folded; the mine is strongly contracted, causing the leaf margin to fold tube-like over the mine. Pupa reddish brown, in a light brown cocoon without frass. All frass packed in a corner of the mine.
host plants
Salicaceae, monophagous
Salix alba, babylonica, daphnoides, elaeagnos, x fragilis, purpurea, repens, triandra, viminalis.
S. x fragilis and viminalis are the main hostplants in Great Britain, but on the European mainland this is S. alba. In Sweden the species lives primarily on S. alba and viminalis (Bengtsson, 2010a).A reference to S. caprea by Buhr (1937a) probably is erroneous.

notes
Bengtsson (2010a) expects that viminiella will turn out to be a valid species.
