Phyllocnistis unipunctella

Populus x canadensis, Nieuwendam: larva; the larva is dead – living larvae are strongly hyaline

head and abdomen end, dorsal
The full grown larva is remarkably slender, legless, hyaline; in the third instar often with a large roundish black spot on the pronotum (see the note on the main page). The fourth instar, just before pupation lacks this spot.; in that state the larva does not feed, but has silk glands, and is able to spin a cocoon. Larva and pupa are described by Lüders (1900a) and Grandi (1931a, 1933a)
