The larva lives in the terminal bud of a heavy branch; also a few lower buds are eaten out. Un the following spring of course these buds remain silent. Pupa ib a silk-lines pupak chamber in a bud; the exit opening characteristically is oval. Preference for young trees in half-shadow,
