Stigmella aurella larva

Rubus spec., Belgium, prov. Hainaut, Hensies © Jean-Yves Baugnée

When larvae (and a miscroscope) are available, aurella can be distinguished from S. splendidissimella and poterii by the presence of a finely spinulose field near the rear margin of the pronotum; when the material has not been cleared this is best seen from the side. See Gustafsson & van Nieukerken (1990a) for a description of the larva.
