Brick red, upper-surface blotch, not preceded by a corridor. Almost all frass is ejected through a slit in the upper epidermis, at the margin of the mine. Characteristic is a pattern of fine concentric lines around the site of oviposition. Rather soon the larva begins to make a flat saucer-shaped cocoon. During feeding pauses it rests here in a horse-shoe position.

host plants

Fagaceae, oligophagous

Castanea sativa; Quercus cerris, faginea, x hispanica, ithaburensis subsp. macrolepis, petraea, pubescens, robur, rubra.

Larvae from September on; hibernation as larva within the mine (Schütze, 1931a, Emmet, 1983b).

BE recorded (Phegea, 2009).

NE recorded (Kuchlein & de Vos, 1999a;, 2009)

LUX recorded (Ellis: Kautenbach).
