Golovinomyces cynoglossi: conidiaGolovinomyces cynoglossi: conidia formation

Brunnera macrophylla, Nieuwendam: conidia and conidia formation

mycelium conspicuous, white, amphigenous, generally persistent. Conidia in chains, elliptic, without fibrosin bodies. Cleistothecia with 5-20 asci that contain 2 (rarely 3) spores. Appendages numerous, attached on and below the equator. They are up to 2 x as long as the diameter, flaccid, hyaline, septate, generally unbranched.

Erysiphe cynoglossi (Wallroth) Braun, 1982.

For a long time each Golovinomyces occurring on Boraginaceae was considered one species, Golovinomyces cynoglossi. However, a study by Braun, Bradshaw, Zhao ao (2018a) demonstrated that at least three species are involved: G. cynoglossi on Cynoglossum, G. asperifolii and Buglossoides, Echium en Myosotis, and G. asperifoliorum on Pulmonaria and Symphytum. The parasites of the many other genera in this family provisionally are addressed as “Golovinomyces cynoglossi complex”.
