gall

mycelium amphigenous, white. Appressoria nipple-shaped, often indistinct. Conidia in short chains, without fibrosin bodies, ± ovoid. Foot-cell of the conidiophore usually curved, 30-100 µm long, followed by two shorter cells. Cleistothecia are only rarely found. They contain 5-14 asci with 2-3 spores. Appendages numerous, on and below the equator, 0.5-2 x the diameter; they are mycelioid, brown, mostly unbranched.

A study by Braun, Shin, Takamatsu ao has demonstrated the the name orontii covers at least three distinct species, viz. orontii itself, G. bolayi andG. tabaci. For a reliable identification a study of the DNA sequence is crucial. The list of hostplants above is applicable to orontii sensu lato.
