mycelium amphigenous, also in the stems. Appressoria lobed, rarely nipple-shaped. Conidia in chains, short-elliptic, without fibrosin bodies. Cleistothecia with 4-10 asci that ripen only after hibernation, and then contain 2(-4) spores. Appendages in variable numbers, sub-equatorial, up to 2 x the diameter; they are poorly differentiated from normal hyphae.
