shining black, less than a mm long elliptic blisters on the stems and undersides of the leaves. They split open, exposing a reddish- or greyish-brown layer of asci. The asci contain 2 (less often up to 6) spores. Spores hyaline, 1-septate, 3-5 x 8-14 µm.
