Epichloe glyceriae Schardl & Leuchtmann, 1999

on Glyceria

Epichloe glyceriae stromata on Glyceria spec.

Glyceria spec., België, prov. Henegouwen, Chimay, Lompret © Sébastien Carbonnelle

gall

One or more internodes all round and mostly over their total length, wrapped in a while, later yellowish fungal mass (stroma). The internodes are hardly or not at all swollen.

hostplants

Poaceae, monophagous

Glyceria striata, spec..

In the literature known to me, E. glyceriae is only mentioned from the North American grass Glyceria striata. Because all known Epichloë species are strictly monophagous, the picture above must indicate a new host plant for the fungus.
