No host plant alternation; Spermogonia usually epiphyllous, ± 0.1 mm, yellow, later brown. Aeci hypophyllous, large and flat, often covering the entire leaf underside with an orange film; infected leaves remain small and have a definitely diseased aspect. No uredinia. Telia, small, black, hypophyllous on yellow spots. Teliospores two-celled, ech cell with a small, well differentiated papilla; wall thin, smooth; pedicel hyaline, deciduous.
