No host plant alternation (or not known). Uredinia epiphyllous in the gutter-like lamina, orange-yellow, initially covere by the epidermis. Scattered throughout the uredinia stand thin-walled, pale yellow paraphyses with a thin stalk and a distinct head. Urediniospores with 6-9 distributed germination pores. Telia epiphyllous, brown-black, rather long covered by the epidermis, later surrounded by remnant of the ruptured epidermis. Teliosporen 2-celled, clavate; wall smooth, thin except an apical thickening; pedicel short, deciduous.

Uredo ammophilina Klebahn, 1914. Among others Termorshuizen & Swertz, and also the Index Fungorum (2016), consider ammophilina conspecific with Puccinia pygmaea.
