no host plant alternation. Aecia cupulate, numerous, often occupying the entire under surface of the leaf. Uredinia tiny, hypophyllous light brown.Telia similar but darker. Teliospores two-celled, obpyriform, wall thin and smooth; pedicel short, persistent. The fungus is systemic, and hibernates in the rhizome; infected shoots remain sterile and have an aberrant growth pattern.
