uredinia mostly epiphyllous, orange, up to 0.5 mm, along their margin a row of colourless, rather thin-walled paraphyses that apically are not clavate; urediniospores with 6-8 pores. Telia up to 1 mm, black, hypophyllous, long covered by the epidermis, surrounded by a palissade of black paraphyses. Teliospores “crowned”, on a short pedicel.

notes

Liu & Hamilton, using a combination of molecular and morphological analysis, have shown that P. coronata in fact is a complex of eight species. Although the reality of these species is indisputable, it is highly probable that further research will bring even more species to the fore. Moreover, the host plant spectre and geographical distribution of the newly distinguished species are only incompletely known. Therefore in this site for the time being coronata still is treated as a normal species.
