no host plant alternation, only uredinia and telia. Uredinia light brown, on leaves, leaf sheaths ans culm, often merging into stripes, long covered by the epidermis. Spores elliptic with 4 pores, inconspicuous, exactly equatorial and neatly distributed crosswise. Telia rarely formed, on leaf sheath and culm, black, also often forming stripes; spores two-celled, slender-elliptic. Both uredinia and telia without paraphyses.

notes

Brandenburger and other others consider this species as nothing else than P. graminis. However, experiments to transfer the fungus to Berberis have all failed.
