No host plant alternation, aecia are missing. Spermogonia hardly ever formed. Uredinia and telia epiphyllous, soon naked, reddish brown and blackish brown, respectively. Urediniospores spinulose, with 2 equatorial germination pores that are not surrounded by a spine-less zone. Teliospores 2-celled, short-oval, almost smooth; pedicel short, hyaline.
