Puccinia purpurea Cooke, 1876
on Poaceae, Panicoideae
uredinia and telia mainly hypophyllous, on intensely purple spots. Uredinia brown, between the spores clavate paraphyses; the spores are brown, often with a paler equator. Telia black, spores two-celled, brown, on an almost hyaline pedicel of up to 120 µm.
Poaceae, narrowly oligophagous
The occurrence of spermogonia and aecia is not mentioned by Termorshuizen & Swertz, perhaps because these phases are undescribed, or because in Europe the host plant alternation is not obligatory.
the uredinia are parasitised by Eudarluca caricis.
