No host plant alternation. Spermogonia mainly epiphyllous, uredinia and telia hypophyllous. The uredinia that are formed first up to 1 cm, cinnamon brown, on galled parts of veins and petiole; the later ones are darker brown and cause only leaf spots. Urediniospores ± globular, with 3(4) germination pores. Telia blackish brown, minute, sometimes coalescing into groups; spores two-celled, oval, wall with fine vertical lines; pedicel 2-3 x the spore length, hyaline, fragile, deciduous.
