No host plant alternation. Spermogonia hypophyllous, deeply sunken into the tissue. Aecia over the entire underside of a clearly disfigured leaf, with small lamina and an elongated petiole. Uredinia and telia hypophyllous, usually on normal leaves, often in circles, long covered by the epidermis. Urediniospores with 3 pores. Teliospores 2-celled, almost globular, smooth, each cell with a broad papilla.
