uredinia brown, up to half a mm long stripes dispersed on (mainly) the upper side of the leaves, occasionally covering the entire surface. Urediniospores spinulose, with 4-6 germination pores. Telia on the underside of the leaves and on the leaf sheaths, less than a mm large, covered by the epidermis, divided into small compartments by rows of brown paraphyses. Teliospores 2-celled, slender-conical, narrowed towards the pedicel; wall smooth, thickened near the tip; pedicel short, persistent.
