Spermogonia at the underside of the current year needles, subepidermal, colourless. There also in two rows the aecia, up to 0.2 mm wide and 1 mm high, white, fragile.

uredinia hypophyllous yellowish brown pustules on vein-limited leaf spots. The urediniospores are extruded as a thread; they are distinctly spinulose, short-stalked elliptic, distally with a short sharp beak. The more or less globular, usually 4-celled teliospores are formed below the epidermis, scattered in the leaf mesophyll.
