Dothideomycetes

Characteristic of this class is the double-layered wall of the ascus. The outer layer is stiff, the inner one elastic. When the ascus ripens is volume increases, which causes an increasing pressure within the outer layer. Ultimately the spores are forcefully ejected through an apical pore.
