During the summer leaf spots develop (also, as “scab” on the fruits) as a superficial mycelium where large masses of asexual conidia are formed. Sexual reproduction takes place in perithecia that are formed in spring on the overwintered fallen leaves. Conidiophores slender, smooth, annualate. Conidia solitary, olive brown, smooth, 7-10 x 14-23 µm, 0-1-septate.
