on Ilex
notes
mycelium epiphyllous, often evanescent. Conidia formed solitary, without fibrosin bodies. Cleistothecia with 3-8 asci that contain 5-8 spores. Appendages 8-6-16, equatorial; they are rather straight and stiff, 0.8 – 1.5 x the diameter, mostly hyaline; apically they are 3-5 times loosely dichotomously branched,
host plants
Anacardiaceae, monophagous
Ilex ? aquifolium.
notes
the occurrence of this species on Ilex aquifolium is not certain: aquifolium is not among the Ilex species listed by Braun & Cook. Its occurrence in Europe is not certain either. Both are stated by Bresinsky on the basis of an inaccessible publication.
The host plant of Microsphaera penicillata f. ilicis Potebnia 1915 has turned out not be an Ilex but Mahoberberis neubertii.
