Golovinomyces neosalviae Scholler, Braun & Schmidt, 2016
on Salvia
gall
mycelium on stems and leaves, conspicuous, amphigenous but mainly epiphyllous, in the end often covering the entire leaf; infected leaved drop in July or August. Appressoria scarce, nipple-shaped, sometimes a bit lobed. Conidia in short chains, without fibrosin bodies. Foot-cell of conidiophore 105-205 µm long, weakly curved, often preceded by a much shorter cell. Cleistothecia with 5-10 asci, with 2 spores. Appendages numerous, mycelioid, septate, more or less brown, about as long as the cleistothecial diameter, attached to the lower half of the cleistothecium.
Götz ao found on Salvia officinalis aberrant material, with up to 800 µm long, sometimes branching conidiophores that here and there showed “shoulder-like” swellings.
host plants
Lamiaceae, Nepetoideae, narrowly monophagous:
Salvia fruticosa, officinalis & subsp. lavandulifolia.
