Leaf spots with pycnidia and rarely) apothecia. Apothecia 0.5-1.2 mm, black; asci 99-127 µm, 8-spore; spores 5-6 x 15-20 µm, 2-3-septate. The infestatation causes a general disease pattern, with dead buds, bark cankers, dying branches (especially current-year branches), browning and dropping of needles.
