Up to 3 cm large, irregular, black (inside white) sclerotia ar the rhizomes. They form pale brown caliciform fruiting bodies, up to 3 cm across and on an up to 10 cm stalk. Asci 7-10 x 120-175 µm, spores 5-8 x 11-16 µm, 2-4 nuclei.
