on Phragmites
gall
As the causing agent of blackish brown sori on the culm and in the inflorescence sometimes Arthrinium phaeospermum (Corda) Ellis, 1965 is cited. However, from the revision of the genus by Crous & Groenewald it appears that probably many references to that species on Phragmites actually apply to A. phragmites. Whether it indeed concerns a plant parasite is not at all clear: A. phragmites was described from a dead culm, most species of the genus have a saprophytic life style.
