parts of the plant are yellowed, hypertrophied and wrinkled; at maturity of the fungus the surface bears a layer of asci.
Based on a study of the type material, Mix concluded that it clearly did not belong to either Taphrina or Taphridium. It is not clear how later authors came to a different conclusion.
