Basidiomycota

The fundamental character of the phylum Basidiomycota is the formation of sexual spores on a special, bladder-like organ, the basidium. The basidium bears four “stalks” (sterigmata), each with one spore on top. As a group the Basidiomycta are the most visible fungi, because they include the conspicuous toadstools and allies (Agaricales).
