upperside of the leaf, with subepidermal telia


uredinia and telia > 0.5 mm. uredinia hypophyllous, recognisable at the upperside by yellow spots, up to 3 mm; between the spores capitate paraphyses with a thickened wall; urediniospores 13-15 x 14-21 µm, wall 2-3 µm tick. Telia epiphyllous, subcuticular, confluent to brownish red crusts; wall of the teliosopores apically strongly thickened.

Im northern Finland the infection on Salix caprea is systemic, resulting in massive sporulation as soon as the buds unfold (Jalkanen).
