uredinia hypophyllous, pustulate, yellow, with a semiglobular peridium; spores short club shaped, remotely spinulose, on a short, plump pedicel. From August on, during damp weather, the uredinia release a white mass of spores. Telia at the underside of brown parts of the hibernated fronds. The spores are formed in the epidermis cells; they are irregular in shape, thin-walled, and are composed of 1-70 cells.
