uredinia hypophyllous, pustulate, covered with a brown epidermis, in which a pare develops; spores short club shaped, remotely spinulose, on a short, plump pedicel. The uredinia ripen in late autumn and winter, releasing a white mass of spores, especially in damp weather. Telia at the underside of brown parts of the hibernated fronds. The spores are formed in the epidermis cells; they are irregular in shape, thin-walled, 1-40 celled.
