No host plant alternation, no aecia or uredinia. Spermogonia not described. Telia hypophyllous, often very numerous, pulverulent, dark brown, surrounded by the remnants of the ruptured epidermis. The leaves are disfigured, pale, the plant is etiolated. Teliospores spinose, two-celled, but easily falling apart.

Thalictrum aquilegiifolium, dioicum, flavum, foetidum, jacquinianum, minus, pubigerum, pupurascens, simplex.

Some authors, including Termorshuizen & Swertz, and also the Index Fungorum (2016) consider thalictri conspecific with T. anemones.
