Fungi of the genus Endophyllum do not have the usual four spore types, but only spermogonia and aecia. Most of the spermogonia are epiphyllous. The generally hypophyllous, numerous aecia are small globules, for a large part sunken into the leaf tissue, once mature opening cup-like.
