Aecia hypophyllous, in groups on discoloured, sometimes somewhat galled spots, cupulate, with white, recurved margin split into segments and yellow spores. Uredinia and telia generally amphigenous, light and dark brown, respectively. Urediniospores 12-29 x 14-32 µm, with 2, generally equatorial pores. Teliospores two-celled, 20 x 37 µm, brown, with apically strongly thickened wall, an a brown, 30-48 µm long pedicel.
