The fungus is systemic; infected plant parts are etiolated and thickened; the plants do not come into flower. No host plant alternation. Spermogonia hypophyllous, between the aecia. Aecia orange yellow, mainly hypophyllous, dispersed all over the leaf; peridium cupulate, forms a clear seam with outwards curved segments. Uredinia rarely formed; spores with 3-4 germination pores. Teliospores almost globular, 2-celled, wall smooth; pedicel hyaline, short; the spores fall off.
