Puccinia calcitrapae

Puccinia calcitrapae de Candolle, 1805

notes

the interpretation of this name varies according to the author. Gäumann sees calctrapae as a species uniquely parasitising Centaurea calctrapa. For perhaps most authors it is a species with a wide array of host plants within the Asteraceae, Cardueae. Klenke & Scholler take it as Puccinia carlinae + P. divergens and disregard the name calcitrapae altogether, in clear violation of the principles of nomenclature.

The following species form the calcitrapae-complex, or are just so named: P. bardanae, cardui-pycnocephali, carduorum, carlinae, carthami, centaureae, divergens, laschii (= cirsii).
