No host plant alternation; aecia are missing. Uredinia epiphyllous, dark brown. Urediniospores 22-24 x 24-31 µm, spinulose, 2 supra-equatorial germination pores. Telia black, epiphyllous, only rarely on leaf spots. Teliospores 25-36 x 30-42 µm. In the telia often some urediniospores are formed.
