No host plant alternation, only telia. Most telia, at the underside of the leaves, germinate almost immediately, recognisable as a grey hue on top of the telium. A second type of telium, darker brown and formed at the underside of the midrib, on petioles and stems. contains spores that germinate only after hibernation.
