No host plant alternation; chestnut uredinia and black telia, both hypophyllous. Urediniospores 18-28 x 20-30 µm with 2-3 germination pores. Teliospores generally two-celled, 28-28 x 38-45 µm, smooth; pedicel hyaline, persistent, up to twice the length of the spore.
