Host alternation not known, only uredinia and telia. Uredinia yellowish brown, in groups, mainly epiphyllous; spores ± globular, 15-20 x 18 x 24 µm, with probably 7-9 inconspicuous germination pores. Telia small, blackish brown, covered by the epidermis, in rows on the leaf sheaths; they contain brown paraphyses. Teliospores two-celled (but one-celled spores are not rare), clavate, 15-28 x 32-56 µm; wall smooth, thin (only apically a bit thicker); pedicel short.
