Senecio vulgaris, Nieuwendam: the peridium is but weakly developed

aeciospores are formed in chains; once free their shape becomes more rounded

No host plant alternation, no spermogonia or uredinia. Telia are infrequently found; they ae shining blackish brown, compact; spores 2-celled, 17-25 x 34-48 µm, wall with some vertical lines.

The most important host plants are Senecio squalidus and vulgaris; especially the latter species can be severely hit. On Bellis the closely related P. distincta occurs, but it is not sure if next to that species also lagenophorae does occur on Bellis.

This rust fungus is native to Australia, and has been found in Europe (France) as late as in 1961.
