No host plant alternation; aecia are missing. Spermogonia honey-coloured, epiphyllous, on swollen yellow spots. Uredinia and telia epiphyllous, brown, often forming crusts, on disfigured and discoloured spots, soon naked. Urediniospores 18-30 x 23-27 µm, verrucose, with 2 equatorial germination pores. Teliospores 25-26 x 35-37 µm, short-elliptic, 2-celled, verrucose; pedicel hyaline, up to 40 µm. The infection often causes strong malformation of the host plant.
