No host plant alternation, no aecia. Uredinia en telia both dark brown, mostly hypophyllous, strongly differing in size, depending on the season. Urediniospores spinulose with 2 equatorial germination pores that are not surrounded by a smooth zone. Teliospores two-celled, 20-32 x 32-48 µm, warty, on a short pedicel.
